A visual, interactive version of Logo, providing a primer for beginners. It can be configured for different levels of ability and can be used up to the end of Key Stage 2. A manual containing suggested learning activities, devised by primary teachers, is included. This version of "Logo" has three windows: the "notepad", "drawing screen" and the "slate". The first two are interdependent and the user can either type commands into the notepad or work directly into the drawing screen, using the mouse. The "slate" presents basic commands as a series of buttons, as an alternative to typing or using the mouse. The screens aim to encourage very young children with the use of a number of different pointers, including a turtle, an aeroplane, a bee, a snake and a racing car. The package provides a simplified introduction to the concept of "procedures" by making them visual - the child highlights the commands by moving the mouse, then selects "Procedure" from the menu, and the procedure is displayed as an icon. Procedure icons can then be moved around the notepad to edit programs."First Logo for Windows" features a more advanced object-oriented user interface, simplying visual procedure editing. It also introduces the concepts of procedure libraries and project files, making it an appropriate introduction to "Logo" across the ability range at Key Stage 2 & 3.
