With the help of the Veps program it becomes possible to create bar codes with EAN13 ISBN and ISSN content fulfilling the standard requirements as well as their two- or five-character supplementary code (addendum) versions for book and newspaper publishers. The bar code will be created in the very wide-spread vector format called EPS (Encapsulated PostScript), elaborated by Adobe Systems, Inc. The saved bar code file can be read in any leading desktop publishing or graphics program. Advantage of the vector format is that the size of the bar code can be chosen freely (of course within reasonable limits) and the resolution of the presentation is only determined by the final output device (e.g. printer). Besides the postscript instructions the EPS format also contains a preview, which appears on the monitor. In case of Windows, the preview is stored in the EPS file, in TIFF format. When printing, evidently the image in accordance with the postscript instructions will be printed. The software can excellently be used in all graphics and DTP studios where publications are produced that need to be identified. Veps is able to encode ISSN, ISBN-10 and ISBN-13 numbers, so the bar codes created by it can perfectly be used for example for product identification in department stores or bar code-based returns accounting in paper distribution, for library identification, in commercial transactions, etc.
